I was thinking about the roots of my creative projects. I can think of lots of projects I had, but one that particularly stands out is my attempt to make "sneaker skates" out of my roller skates. I was about 9 or 10 years old and had seen these cool new skates that had KEDS on top of the skate wheels. I had KEDS. I had old skates. I spent HOURS in my bedroom with scissors, cutting the old white vinyl boots off of the wheel mechanism, and then trying to glue the KEDS on top of them. I used epoxy which emitted heavy-duty fumes. I didn't open a window or door. I didn't understand why I had such a horrific headache! I am not sure my parents knew what I was up to. Unfortunately, as you can guess, the epoxy just wasn't strong enough to keep the shoes on top of the skates. Today I think..."If only I'd had a drill and screwdriver..." But I haven't given up. The wheels in my brain are continuously turning, thinking of new projects. I try to be a bit more practical these days, but kind of miss the days when I didn't let feasibility stand in my way.

Welcome to my blog!
I recently spent a week with my sister, Sara, who just bought a house in Berkeley, after several years of living in San Francisco. I have been going up to spend time with her for a few years, now. Whenever I visit her, I get SO excited about possibilities. There are so many creative people in the Bay Area making their living with their art, and I get so excited about how I can make it work for me. Sara is so supportive of me in many way, and couldn't wait to help me set up my own blog, Willow Beach, as well as an Etsy site that I'm working on. We did so many fun things together this trip, and one of the highlights was taking her motorcycle to the "hippie show" near the Berkeley Campus. Here we are on the bike.
And here we are as younger girls, on a swimming day! Weren't we lovely! I'm the older sister. I gave my father a copy of this picture once and he remarked on how short I was. I AM ON MY KNEES SO WE ARE THE SAME HEIGHT! Oh, Daddy.....
